A useful link from Microsoft about running the upgrade wizard when you have SQL Server 6.5 installed on the computer.

"To run the SQL Server Upgrade Wizard, you must have a default instance of Microsoft SQL Server 2000 installed on your computer".

http://www.examnotes.net/ offers free practice questions by email for 70-228 and 70-229. They also have discussion boards you can post to. Registration is required.

SQL Server Central has a good FAQ on fixed server roles

Well, I am currently studying for the Microsoft 70-229 so I thought I'd put a blog up about it. I'm going to include useful study links and a list of the books I got, as well as comments.

Books

From reading Newsgroups and Amazon reviews, it seemed that these were good books to have:

MCSE Training Kit : Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Database Design and Implementation (Exam 70-229)
This one of course was an obvious choice. Its very dense, but as others have said, don't rely on it only.
MCSE Microsoft Sql Server 2000 Database Design and Implementation: Readiness Review Exam 70-229 (Pro-Certification) By: Sharon Bjeletich, et al
Microsoft Sql Server 2000 for Dummies (--For Dummies) By: Anthony T. Mann

I'm also reading this right now, to make sure I get the basics down.
Professional SQL Server 2000 Programming By: Rob Vieira
Professional SQL Server 2000 Database Design By: Louis Davidson, Wrox Author Team
